World Cup

Report of last year's World Cup at the Snowkite Reschensee: Reschen, 01/31/2010:

More than 70 athletes have come to the Snowkite World Cup in South Tyrol which took place at the Lake Resia. In addition to athletes from Germany there were also athletes from Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and Norway.

During three days the riders circled the lake with huge colorful kites. In snowkiting the athlete use huge kites to fly across the snow. You can do snowkiting either on skis or on a snowboard. There were a Freestyle and Race discipline. In the Race the athletes had to do a several miles long triangular course. They reached speeds up to 100 km / h. In contrast, the Freestyle riders can hang some meters high in the air to show their moves - a jury has to judge rotations and figures.

After three days on the frozen Lake Resia, all were satisfied with the first World Championships. "We saw all great sport achievements of the world's best snowkiters," said race director Mike summarizing the sporting part of the event. Event coordinator Pascal Matzke said: "More than 1,000 spectators came to see the competitions this weekend. For many it was the first contact with snowkiting. They were all very excited."
